Text to Speech for Baldur's Gate 3 - Read Any Game Text Aloud

The short answer

BG3 has no built-in text to speech on PC. Corvo Reader adds it: press a hotkey, draw a box round any tooltip, book or journal entry, and hear it in a natural voice. No mods.

Baldur's Gate 3 has some of the best writing in gaming. It also has some of the densest text - item descriptions, spell tooltips, character backgrounds, journal entries, and dialogue options that go on for paragraphs.

The dialogue is voice acted, apart from your own character's replies. But tooltips, inventory descriptions, spell effect breakdowns, books, the journal, and most UI text go completely unread.

For players with dyslexia, ADHD, or visual fatigue, that gap makes a significant part of the game inaccessible.

Does BG3 Have Text to Speech?

Not on PC. Baldur's Gate 3 has no built-in text to speech or menu narration on PC, according to the Family Gaming Database accessibility report. Patch 6 added a text size slider for books and other readables, but nothing in the game reads these aloud:

  • Item and spell tooltips
  • Inventory descriptions
  • Journal and quest text
  • Character background and lore entries
  • Most contextual UI tooltips

These are precisely the dense text elements that cause the most difficulty for players who struggle with reading.

The Fix - Game Text to Speech for Any BG3 Content

Corvo Reader is a Windows overlay that reads any visible text in Baldur's Gate 3 aloud using natural AI voices, including your own dialogue choices. No mods, and it does not touch the game's files.

The workflow:

  1. Press Ctrl+Shift+E while playing BG3
  2. Draw a selection box around any tooltip, description, or text
  3. Hear it read back immediately in a natural AI voice

For tooltip-heavy situations like spell selection during level-up or item comparison in the inventory, you can save that screen region. Saved regions read with one key, so one keypress reads whatever tooltip is currently showing.

So you are not limited to one-off snips. Once you define a region for a recurring tooltip area or inventory panel, Corvo Reader can read that same space again whenever you need it.

Set BG3 to Borderless or Windowed

Corvo Reader cannot see games running in exclusive fullscreen. In BG3's video settings, switch the display mode to Borderless or Windowed - check the exact label in your game's display settings. Borderless looks the same as fullscreen.

Why This Matters for BG3 Specifically

BG3 is one of the most text-heavy RPGs ever made. The entire game is built around reading - reading dialogue options, reading spell descriptions, reading item properties, reading quest journals.

Players with dyslexia report that the density of text in BG3 is one of the main barriers to enjoying the game. Players with ADHD find the constant reading breaks immersion and kills momentum. Players with visual fatigue hit a wall after long sessions.

Corvo Reader removes that barrier entirely. The game's writing stays exactly as rich and detailed as Larian intended. You just hear it instead of read it.
