What to box

Text worth hearing in CK3

  • Event text and options
  • Option tooltips
  • Nested concept tooltips
  • Interaction breakdowns
  • Schemes and decisions
  • Lifestyle perks
  • The message feed

Press CtrlShiftE and draw a box round any of it to hear it read aloud.

The text CK3 throws at you

Every event comes with several options, each with a tooltip breaking down its effects, and those tooltips link to game concepts with tooltips of their own. Add character interactions and their acceptance breakdowns, schemes, decisions, lifestyle perks and the message feed, and an evening of CK3 is a lot of small print.

Read an event with one key

Save the event window as a region: saved regions read with one key, so each new event is one press away.

For anything else, including a nested tooltip, press Ctrl+Shift+E and draw a box round it before you pick an option.

Compared with the CK3 text to speech mod

There is a good free option made by the community: the Text to Speech mod in the CK3 UI Accessibility collection on the Steam Workshop reads event text and option tooltips with a key press, using a companion reader app and your Windows voices. If it suits you, use it.

Corvo Reader's difference: there is no mod to install, it reads anything on screen (character sheets, decisions, map tooltips), it uses natural AI voices, and it works the same in your other games.

Questions

CK3 and Corvo Reader.

Does CK3 have text to speech?

Not for events and tooltips out of the box. Community mods add it with Windows voices; Corvo Reader does it without a mod.

Will it affect ironman or achievements?

Corvo Reader doesn't install mods or change game files. It reads what's on your screen, the same way you do.

Which display mode does CK3 need?

Borderless or Windowed. In exclusive fullscreen, Windows keeps the game's picture away from other apps, so Corvo Reader can't see the text. Where to look: Video settings: a borderless or windowed display mode. Check your game's display settings, as the exact label can change between versions.

Is it free?

Yes. The free plan needs no card: standard neural voices for 20 minutes of narration a week. Paid plans start at $6.99 a month and add weekly premium voice minutes, unlimited standard voices, Summarize and Translate.
