Game text to speech
Text to speech for Baldur's Gate 3
Baldur's Gate 3 voices its conversations, but a huge share of the game is still text: spell and item tooltips, books, letters and the journal. Corvo Reader reads any of it aloud in a natural voice. No mods.

What BG3 leaves you to read
Dialogue is voice acted, except your own character's replies, and there is no built-in text to speech or menu narration on PC (according to the Family Gaming Database accessibility report). Spell and action tooltips, item descriptions, conditions, level-up choices, the journal and quest log, and every book and letter are text you read yourself.
Patch 6 added a size slider for books and other readables, but item descriptions and quest text stay small.
Hear any tooltip with one key
Press Ctrl+Shift+E (the default hotkey), draw a box round the tooltip or book page, and Corvo Reader reads it aloud.
If you keep checking the same spot, like the tooltip area during level-up, save it as a region. Saved regions read with one key, so one press reads whichever tooltip is showing.
Long books, summarized or translated
On paid plans, Summarize gives you the short version of a long book or letter, and Translate reads it in another language.
Questions
BG3 and Corvo Reader.

Does Baldur's Gate 3 have text to speech?
Not on PC. The dialogue is voice acted, but there is no built-in text to speech or menu narration for tooltips, books or the journal.
Do I need mods?
No. Corvo Reader reads what's on your screen, so there is nothing to install in the game and it doesn't change BG3's files.
Will it read my own dialogue choices?
Yes. Any text on screen can be read, including your character's replies, which the game doesn't voice.
Which display mode does BG3 need?
Borderless or Windowed. In exclusive fullscreen, Windows keeps the game's picture away from other apps, so Corvo Reader can't see the text. Where to look: Video settings, Display Mode: Borderless or Windowed. Check your game's display settings, as the exact label can change between versions.
Is it free?
Yes. The free plan needs no card: standard neural voices for 20 minutes of narration a week. Paid plans start at $6.99 a month and add weekly premium voice minutes, unlimited standard voices, Summarize and Translate.
