Game text to speech
Natural-voice text to speech for Stellaris
Stellaris is one of the few strategy games with text to speech built in, and it reads with your Windows voice. Corvo Reader reads the same events, anomalies and tooltips in a natural AI voice, with one hotkey and no mods.

Stellaris already talks, in your Windows voice
Stellaris has its own text to speech. In the settings' Accessibility tab you can turn on Text to speech and Text to speech (Tooltips), and the Sound tab has a Text to speech volume slider, as a popular Steam community guide walks through. It speaks with the voice set in Windows, so speed and language follow your Windows settings rather than the game's.
If that voice works for you, keep using it: it is free and built in. Plenty of players find the standard Windows voices robotic, which is why community guides and projects exist that route Stellaris through more natural voices by changing Windows voice settings or installing a bridge.
What Corvo Reader adds
Natural AI voices for whatever you box: anomaly and event chains, first contact, archaeology site chapters, situation logs, and species and trait descriptions. Press Ctrl+Shift+E, draw a box round the text, and hear it. Nothing to change in Windows and nothing to install in the game.
Save the event window as a region and it reads with one key.
Long event chains, summarized
On paid plans, Summarize gives you the short version of a long event chain or archaeology chapter, and Translate helps if you play in a second language.
Using both readers
If the game's own text to speech stays on while you use Corvo Reader, you may hear two voices at once. Turning the game's option off while you use Corvo avoids the overlap, and you can switch it back on any time.
Questions
Stellaris and Corvo Reader.

Does Stellaris have text to speech?
Yes. Turn on Text to speech and Text to speech (Tooltips) in the Accessibility tab of the settings. It reads with your Windows voice.
Why use Corvo Reader, then?
For natural AI voices without changing Windows voice settings or installing anything, and for the same reader in your other games. If the built-in voice suits you, there's no need to switch.
Which display mode does Stellaris need?
Borderless or Windowed. In exclusive fullscreen, Windows keeps the game's picture away from other apps, so Corvo Reader can't see the text. Where to look: Settings, Video: a borderless or windowed display mode. Check your game's display settings, as the exact label can change between versions.
Is it free?
Yes. The free plan needs no card: standard neural voices for 20 minutes of narration a week. Paid plans start at $6.99 a month and add weekly premium voice minutes, unlimited standard voices, Summarize and Translate.
